Friday 27th October 2023 is the date for our next talk – “The Archaeology of HS2“.
Doug Stuckey, honorary chair of Buckinghamshire Archaeological Society, will be giving an update on the discoveries made since his last visit to us in February 2020. Excavation work on 13 major sites across the county is now complete and in the final analysis stage and we look forward to hearing about new developments and objects found.

………. and don’t forget our final event for this year on Friday 17th November when John Flewin, founder and curator of Stewkley Film Archive, will give a vintage film presentation ‘The Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital”. This 30 minute filmwas commissioned in the 1930s to encourage families to join the hospital’s contributory scheme which then ensured free healthcare at the hospital. Many Wingravians would have received treatment at the hospital. The film was shown “to a large audience at the Temperance Hall in Wingrave” in November 1938, almost 85 years ago to the day but has remained unseen ever since. Again, 7.30 pm, in the Wingrave Community Centre.
