The Great Upheaval

On April 24th 1797 an Act of Parliament for the enclosure of the open fields of Wingrave and Rowsham received Royal Assent. It began one of the greatest upheavals the Parish has ever experienced.

All its open land would be put into a melting pot and redistributed. The landscape largely medieval would completely alter into a patchwork of hedged fields, many of which remain today.
